J.G Schmidt Co. Inc. (JGS) was founded by Julius George Schmidt and the company is presently located in Green Brook, NJ. JGS began as a tool and die shop in Newark, NJ in the 1920s. By the 1940s, J.G. Schmidt became involved in production stamping, and for the most part created items for the kitchen. The company was approached by a local door manufacturer regarding hinge production and it was the start of a long journey which is still transforming J.G. Schmidt to this day.
The second generation of George and his brother Arthur Schmidt took the company to the next level, concentrating on the Overhead Garage door industry, providing products to most of the major manufacturers. During the late 20th century,Schmidt grew to be a major supplier of hinges & rollers to the industry.
The company is now run by the third generation of Schmidt’s, Tom, Lynn and Lisa who are totally committed to the high standards of past generations. JGS has expanded the product line over the years to include most major door components as well as roll forming lines producing 2-inch and 3-inch track, angle, struts and reverse clip angles. The company is currently housed in a modern manufacturing facility close to the transportation hubs of New York City. JGS ships around the country and the world by truck, rail and ocean freight.
J.G Schmidt serves the garage door industry from manufacturers to distributors to installation professionals. We ship to all areas of the USA, and our products are represented on several continents worldwide.
In addition to our large in-house stamping, assembly and roll forming production, J.G Schmidt also possesses extensive importing and distributing capabilities. JGS maintains the capability to domestically manufacture over 90% of our product-line in order to protect against international disruptions. We have a completely equipped tool room with the capabilities to manufacture tooling for custom items.
J.G. Schmidt has a complete line of garage door hardware and track. JGS offers standard hardware kits and track assemblies as well as producing custom items to meet your every specification. JGS will create kit hardware boxes and assemble track sets to your specs so your customers get what they need on the job site.
